1. You Enjoy Helping Others
This is one is obvious. Being a surrogate means not only wanting to help others, but understanding it takes compassion for your intended parents and the sweet bundle you'll be caring for. It also means wanting to be present for the entire journey and remembering time is precious to all those involved.
2. You Have Great Communication Skills
This is probably the greatest contribution you can bring to the table. Being a surrogate means staying in contact with your intended parents, agency representative, and the doctors and nurses you'll be working with throughout the journey. It is essential to connect in a timely manner, no matter how busy you may be. You'd be surprised how helpful this is.
3. You Are Reliable
Next up, reliability! There will be many, many, many doctor's and IVF appointments, initial screenings, and tasks you will need to complete to start your journey. Filling out medical release forms, completing OB clearance, and other duties will require you to be very dependable.
4. You Have No Problems Giving Yourself Injections
Something not talked about often enough, is a part of the journey you cannot brush over. You will have to give yourself injections (or designate a partner) regularly during the first 3 months of your journey. If you don't like needles, and foresee this being a problem, surrogacy might not be right for you.
5. You Have a Solid Support System
This is also a big one! No matter how prepared you may be, or how easy your last pregnancies were, having a strong support system in place can make or break any blips that will inevitably pop up.
